Pain conditions
At our Los Angeles Pain Center we treat different pain conditions such as:
Osteoporosis pain
Sciatica Pain
Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction
Spondylolysis
Degenerative Disc Disease
Discogenic pain is pain originating from the disc itself; an internally disrupted disc may result in disc material causing chemical irritation of nerve fibers. Diagnosis is typically made by MRI/patient examination and/or CT, in some cases, to rule out other diagnosis. Discography can also be used to diagnosis this condition.
Nonoperative care for DDD may include rest for acute, low back pain, NSAID medication, or Physical Therapy. Non-operative treatments such as steroidal and transforamial injections work very well for pain associated with this condition and is the “gold” standard for relief of pain associated with this age related disease.
Surgical care may be necessary for failure of non-operative treatments and would include a removal of disc and replacement with bone graft, or a cage-filled bone graft, or a bone graft substitute. This type of surgery is referred to as a fusion of the disc and can be either Anterior, Posterior, or combined in approach. Arthroplasty is also a surgical treatment option which is a total disc replacement of the articulating disc.
